Janice Pearl Vogler July 25, 1947 – July 17, 2022

Janice Pearl Vogler passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022. She was 74 years old.

Jan was born July 25, 1947, to Henry and Ruth Vogler in Pendleton, where she joined sisters, Connie, Joyce, and Pam on the Butter Creek Ranch near Echo, Ore. In 1950, the family moved to Harney County and became the owners and operators of the Island Ranch.

Jan spent many summers and weekends at the Island Ranch helping her grandmother, Pearl, playing with her little brother, Hank, and taking care of her youngest sister, Bonnie.

In 1962, Jan married Ken McVay and had three boys, Christopher, Michael “Todd” and Mitchel “Tory”. After graduating from high school, Jan worked multiple jobs, but her favorite was as a “Candy Striper” at the Harney County District Hospital. Jan then worked for the Edward Hines Lumber Company, where she operated the Finger Jointer.

In 1971, Jan married Buck Taylor and moved to the VE Ranch near Sod House. They had two boys, Rex “Dally” and Justin “Boots”.  When her boys were young she kept busy with their activities, primarily 4H and rodeo, school board, and cooking for hay crews in the summer. When all the boys were older she went back to work at the mill.

In 1983, Jan moved to Bend, where she graduated from Central Oregon Community College and fulfilled her lifelong dream to become a Registered Nurse. Over the years she worked in labor and delivery, postpartum care, intensive care, medical-surgical, telemetry, and long-term care.

Jan loved reading, astrology, playing cards and games, visiting friends, and spending time with family. Jan was also well known for her jokes and storytelling, passing along advice, and her sparkly clothes and jewelry.

Jan is survived by her children, Michael “Todd” McVay of Tampa, Fla., Mitchel “Tory” (Yvonne) McVay of Milwaukie, Ore., Rex “Dally” (Danielle) Taylor of Burns, and Justin “Boots” (Michelle) Taylor of Bend; her siblings, Connie Barber, Joyce Dickerson, Pam Harper, Hank Vogler, and Bonnie Vogler; her grandchildren, Megan, Jacob, Matthew, Alana, Madeline, Bradley, Lindsey, Zane, Ty, Josie, Miguel, Abraham, Lucas and Gabriel; and her great-granddaughter, Ashton. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Christopher McVay, and her parents.

At Jan’s request, there will be no service. Remembrances can be made to the Harney County Library.
