During halftime of the Mustang football game on Friday, Sept. 15, Crane Union High School was presented the 2021-2022 1A OSAA Cup by the Oregon School Activities Association.

Schools earn points based on their participation and finish in OSAA State Championships and for Top 10 finishes in the OnPoint Community Credit Union Academic All-State Program. A sportsmanship component — whereby schools are awarded points each season for having no ejections — is included as well. The school earning the highest points in each classification receives a commemorative trophy from Pacific Office Automation and the OSAA.

During the 2021-2022 school year, Crane had five different top 10 finishes in the OSAA Academic All-State program.
In activities, Crane won state championships in both girls and boys basketball, as well as a third-place finish in girls track and fourth in volleyball.

Accepting the award for Crane were Athletic Director Jamie Siegner, Superintendent Matt Hawley, Principal Eric Nichols, and Student Council President Leslie Doman. Kelly Foster from OSAA presented the cup.

According to the OSAA, “This award is truly a community award. It is an award that exemplifies true pride in which teachers, faculty, parents, and students have for Crane High School.”

The OSAA Cup began in 1999 as a way to recognize overall excellence by schools in academics, activities, athletics, and sportsmanship. The award honors a school’s students, teachers, coaches, and the entire school community. The cup is currently sponsored by Pacific Office Automation as part of their increased focus on supporting Oregon’s high school community.
