Betty Lee Morgan Oct. 21, 1933 – Sept. 14, 2022

Betty Morgan was born to Homer and Austa Carlon on Oct. 21, 1933, at home on the ranch in Summer Lake, Ore.

She grew up on the ranch with her siblings, Doris Carlon White and Larry Carlon. They also spent time at Wagontire where the cattle were taken to summer pasture.

in 1941, the Carlon brothers purchased the ranch at Silver Creek near Riley. When Homer bought out his brothers in 1944, Homer and Austa moved. Silver Creek became Betty’s new home. A house was also purchased in Burns so the children could attend school during the week. The weekends and summers were spent ranching. It was a family effort as help was hard to find.

Betty graduated from Burns High School as valedictorian of her class in 1951. She went on to attend Oregon State University for two years and remained an avid Beaver fan all her life.

In 1954, she met Mike Morgan, who had come to work on their ranch. They were married in December of 1954. Mike’s time in the army took Betty away from her beloved ranch life to Fort Lewis, Wash., for awhile in 1955 and 1956. When they returned, they worked on the Carlon Ranch at Silver Creek until it sold in 1960.

Mike and Betty then bought their own place on Silver Creek, known as the Harry Williams ranch at the time. They stayed there until 1976 when they sold it and purchased their home on the Sandhill near Burns.

Cattle ranching continued for Betty until 2010. Even though she and Mike sold the cows, Betty continued to work behind the scenes as Mike represented Western Video Market. Mike passed away in 2013. Betty remained at their Sandhill home, taking care of it, as well as herself until she passed away on Sept. 14, 2022 in Burns.

Betty is survived by her brother, Larry Carlon and wife, Wanda; nephews, Bill Carlon, Terry Carlon, Jon White; and niece, Mary Lee White.

She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband, Mike Morgan; her sister, Doris White; and nephew, Mike Carlon.

Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to the Mike and Betty Morgan Scholarship Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation in care of LaFollette’s Chapel.
