Don Moody 1931-2025 Obituary June 4, 2025June 4, 20250 Don Moody passed away in May, at his home in Riley. He was born in 1931, in Los Angeles, Calif., to his parents Clyde and Gladys Moody. Don moved to Oregon with his family in 1945. They settled in the Applegate Valley, where he grew up. He received his elementary education in the Beaver Creek one-room school. Don attended Jacksonville High School for two years. His family moved to a ranch in the Central Point area, and graduated from Central Point High School in 1950. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy, and spent two of his four years enlistment on the Island of Guam. After being discharged from the service, Don attended Southern Oregon College and received a degree in teaching, and later obtained his Masters Degree in Biological Education, attending summer school. Don taught in the Rogue River High School for 14 years; the last four years he served as Vice Principal. On July 3, 1967, he accepted a position as a Seasonal Forest Officer with Oregon State Forestry, and worked the summers until 1974. He then retired from Rogue River High School and accepted permanent employment with the Oregon State Forestry (OSF). After retiring from the OSF in 1989, Don moved with his wife, Judy, to Riley, where they bought a small ranch to live the country lifestyle they desired. Riley held a special place in Don’s heart, as his family had been hunting in the Silvies Unit since 1927. While living in Riley, Don and Judy raised Quarter Horses. Don was very artistic – building antler chandeliers, branding irons, oil paintings and many other art forms. He did a lot of welding and helping neighbors and friends with many different projects. Don’s talents were endless. Going back to his roots with education, Don proudly served on the Suntex School board for 13 years. Don is survived by his wife, Judy Moody; son, Clyde Moody; grandson, Brennan Moody; granddaughter, Bayley Moody; great-granddaughter, Magnolia Moody; and daughter, Fawn Weems. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Bev Reneau. In lieu of flowers, if compelled, please donate to Harney County Hospice, Suntex School, or a charity of your choice.
