Marylou Wilhelm 1939 – 2025 Obituary July 16, 2025July 16, 20250 Marylou Wilhelm, age 86, of Hines, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025. Born March 30, 1939, Marylou lived a life filled with creativity, warmth, and boundless love for her family and community. A lifelong artist and gentle spirit, Marylou was deeply connected to nature—she cherished painting the outdoors, sharing her love of watercolor with anyone who would gather around her. She pioneered a unique art form she called “watigami,” blending the softness of watercolor with layered origami paper to create intricate, dimensional greeting cards. These delicate creations were as beautiful as her soul. As soon as the snow melted and camping season arrived (as much as she also loved watching snow fall), Marylou was the first packed up and ready. She reveled in peaceful mornings by the fire, where she would paint and appreciate the beauty around her. Summer was her season, and her radiant smile was a constant companion through every gathering. Locally, Marylou was beloved as part of Harney County’s creative heart. Her watercolor paintings—especially her series of historic buildings and landmarks—many of her pieces were featured around the community. She created bright, memorable maps of Harney County and contributed a watercolor to the Migratory Bird Festival poster, sharing her gift with the broader community. But above all, Marylou was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her pride in her children and grandkids was boundless. She poured her love of her family into any moment she had the chance to talk about them. Any moment she could schedule to get away in order to see them, she did. Marylou’s legacy is one of creativity, kindness, and unwavering love. She touched countless lives—with her art, with her smile, and with the soft strength of her “kindest soul.” She will be deeply missed by her beloved family, her extended artistic community, and all who knew her gentle spirit.
