Donna Jean Jordan 1930 – 2026

Donna Jean Jordan passed away peacefully at her home in Pilot Rock, Ore., on Jan. 3, 2026. She was born on Feb. 21, 1930, to Charles Clinton Barnes and Fannie Belle Barnes, arriving into the world alongside her twin brother, Don “Jiggs” Barnes. Donna and Jiggs joined four older sisters — Ferne (Cagle), Jennie (Otley), Thelma (Otley), and Josephine (Urizar), completed a lively and loving family.

Donna loved being raised on the family ranch in Frenchglen. The ranch had a warm spring with a small house built over it, and Donna and her siblings could often be found playing in the warm water whenever chores and school left them a bit of free time. The spring also served as a community bath house, and Donna loved to tell stories of the herders who came down from the Steens Mountains with their sheep, stopping to use the bath house before moving on. She also spoke of the peddlers and ranch hands who passed through — each one full of tall tales that delighted the children and added color to life on the ranch.

Donna attended grade school in Frenchglen and later attended and graduated from Crane High School where she lived in the dorms. It was during her years at Crane that she met the young man who would become her lifelong partner, Lauren Jordan.

Donna married Lauren on Sept. 21, 1948, and together they raised six children: Randy, Dennis, Shirley, Marilyn, Patty, and Brenda. They lived in Burns for many years where Donna worked at several U.S. Forest Service Lookouts during fire season and was a busy stay at home mom. Lauren was then transferred with the U.S. Forest Service to Prineville. During their years in Prineville, Donna worked at Pioneer Memorial Hospital, where she enjoyed her work and the people she served for many years. After she and Lauren retired, they purchased a small farm in Pilot Rock where Donna found joy in her flowers, her garden, and the steady rhythm of country life.

Nothing made Donna happier than spending time with her family. She treasured every visit with her children, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and great‑great‑grandchildren. Her door was always open, and her home was a place where everyone felt welcome.

Donna is survived by her six children: Randy (Cathy) Jordan of Rock Island, Wash.; Dennis (Glenna) Jordan of Hines; Shirley (Paul) Reyes of Wenatchee, Wash.; Marilyn (Jim) White of Juntura; Patty Mallars of Pilot Rock; and Brenda Olson (Albert Bowers) of Vancouver, Wash. She was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 24 great‑grandchildren, and five great‑great‑grandchildren. Donna is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, Lauren Jordan; her parents; her twin brother, Don (Jiggs) Barnes; her sisters, Ferne Cagle, Jennie Otley, Thelma Otley, and Josephine Urizar; her uncle and aunt, Art and Myrtle Barnes; her  son-in‑law, John Mallars; and nephews, Charlie Cagle and Dick Otley.

A graveside service will be held on June 6 at 2 p.m. at Burns Oregon Cemetery

A gathering immediately after will be at the pavilion across from Hines City Hall.
