Steeves earns state high jump crown

David Steeves brought home a state championship in the high jump for the Crane Mustangs at the OSAA Class 1A State Track Meet held in Eugene.

Steeves also finished eighth in the discus to lead the Mustang boys to a ninth-place finish. Dustin Ramge had a fourth-place finish in the pole vault.

Adrian easily won the boys team title, Hosanna Christian was a distant second, and Southwest Christian was third.

Boys results:

4×100 – Ramge, Jack Bentz, Joseph Valentine, John O’Toole 8th, 46.97.

4×400 – O’Toole, Bryce Otley, Bentz, Ramge 7th, 3:41.04.

Discus – Steeves 8th, 122-10.

High Jump – Steeves 1st, 6-01.00.

Pole Vault – Ramge 4th, 12-00.00.

Long Jump – Jay Jay Balowski 7th, 19-00.50.

Kayla Mims scored the only points for the Mustang girls, finishing seventh in the discus. Bryanna Dunn competed in the long jump, but failed to place.

The 1A girls title was claimed by Joseph, who scored one more point than second-place Griswold. Adrian finished third.

Nine members of the Burns track team finished their season in Eugene at the OSAA Class 2A State Championships.

The 4×100 relay team of Carli Feist, Mckenzi Hoyt, Nicol Gahley, and Emma Winn placed third. Feist and Hoyt each placed fourth in the 300M hurdles and the 1500M, respectively.

The Hilander girls finished tied for 13th place in the team standings. Grant Union narrowly beat East Linn Christian for the team title. Union finished third.

Girls results:

1500M – Hoyt 4th, 5:01.03.

300M hurdles – Feist 4th, 49.59.

4×100 – Feist, Hoyt, Gahley, Winn 3rd, 52.50.

Scott Davies finished second in the 800M for the Hilander boys. He was also part of the 4×400 relay team, consisting of Evan Gunderson, Brett Friedrichsen, and Dallon Higgins, that finished fifth. Jake Blackburn placed fourth in the javelin.

Burns finished tied for 16th place. Regis won the team title, East Linn Christian was runner-up, and Union finished third.

Boys results:

800M – Davies 2nd, 2:01.00.

4×400 –  Gunderson, Friedrichsen, Higgins, Davies 5th, 3:37.48.

Javelin – Blackburn 4th, 158-06.
