Burns, Crane track teams compete at Vale

The Burns boys track team claimed the top spot in the team standings at the Vale Small Schools Meet on Tuesday, March 20.

The Hilanders racked up 109 points to win the meet, with Homedale, Idaho, placing second with 90 points.

The Crane boys team finished eighth with 39 points.

Burns was led by Emmett Klus, who finished first in the 400m, 800m, 1500m, and in the 4×400 relay along with Kyran Simpson, Evan Gunderson, and Bryce Goss. The Hilanders’ Calvin Bates led the field in the 3000m, and Crane’s Miles Maupin won the javelin.

The Burns girls team placed a close second in the team standings with 143.5 points, getting edged out by Grant Union with 145 points. The Crane girls team finished 12th with six points.

McKenzi Hoyt of Burns won the 800m and the 1500m, Alicyn Hoke was first in the 3000m, and the 4×400 relay team of M. Hoyt, Kirsten Swann, Lexi Hoyt, and Annabelle Johnson outpaced the competition for the win. Along with Hoyt’s first-place finish in the 1500m, the Hilanders also placed second, third, fourth, and fifth in the race.
