Lawrence Richard (Dick) Fishback 1936-2018

Lawrence Richard (Dick) Fishback, a 1954 graduate of Burns Union High School, passed away April 27 in Henderson, Nev.

Dick was born Feb. 7, 1936 in Eugene, the youngest child of Rev. Len B. and Mildred Fishback.  He attended schools in Baker, Roseburg, and Bend before moving to Burns when his father became pastor of the Burns Christian Church.

In 1956, he married Rosalee (Bobbi) Wenick in Burns.

Following graduation from the University of Oregon School of Journalism and service in the U.S. Army, he worked on newspapers in Gresham, Roseburg, and Salem before joining The Oregonian sports staff in Portland. In 1968, he moved to Honolulu to become sports information director and later assistant athletic director for promotions at the University of Hawaii.

He later served as executive editor of the Aloha Bowl in Honolulu and the Ocean Shores (Wash.) Convention Center.

After moving to Las Vegas in 1991, he and Bobbi enjoyed reunions with Burns Union High classmates.

Dick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bobbi; sons, Michael (LeeAnn) and Paul (Martina Buckley); and one grandson, Ruairi.

Dick’s life will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Murray Hills Christian Church, 15050 SW Weir Road in Beaverton.
