Cougars hand Mustangs first loss of the season 34-20

With their undefeated record on the line, the Crane Mustangs came up short against Wallowa, falling 34-20 on Friday, Oct. 12.

The Cougars struck early, scoring on a 75-yard TD by from Austin Brockamp on the first offensive play.

Crane took an 8-6 lead late in the first quarter on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Rixon Doman to Seth Doman, and the two-point conversion  run from R. Doman.

The Mustangs’ lead was short-lived however, as the Cougars Gus Ramsden rambled 66 yards for the score on their next possession. Ramsden also ran for the two-point conversion, putting Wallowa up 14-8.

With just under 10 minutes to go in the second quarter, Ramsden ran for a 33-yard score, and again ran in the two-point conversion, giving the Cougars a 22-8 advantage.

Ramsden got into the end zone for the third time on a 1-yard run with one minute to go in the half, and the Cougars went into the break with a 28-8 lead.

The Cougars scored their final touchdown with under two minutes left in the third quarter, making it 34-8.

Chase Joyce added a touchdown run for Crane with just under 11 minutes to play, and the Mustangs added another TD late in the game for the final margin.

With the loss, Crane dropped to 4-1 in the conference, 6-1 overall, and Wallowa is 5-0, 6-1.

The Mustangs finish out the regular season with a trip to Elgin (3-2, 4-3) on Friday, Oct. 19. Kickoff at 6 p.m.
