Burns girls top Ontario 51-30, now 13-1

The Burns girls basketball team (13-1) picked up another non-conference win on Wednesday, Jan. 3, beating Ontario (2-10) 51-30 at Burns High School.

Allie Hueckman led the Hilanders’ scoring attack with 15 points, and Aundraya Ceja dropped in 11.

The contest was a bit of a rough-and-tumble affair, with both teams aggressive on the defensive side. Burns got out to a 12-11 first quarter lead, with half of their points coming from the free throw line.

The Lady Hilanders started the second frame on an 8-0 run, and outscored the Lady Tigers 16-4 to grab a 28-15 lead at halftime.

Ontario picked up the tempo in the third period, outscoring Burns 13-12, but still trailing 40-28 headed into the fourth quarter.

The Lady Hilanders quashed any hopes Ontario might have had about a fourth-quarter comeback by holding the Lady Tigers to just three points over the final eight minutes as Burns pulled away for the victory.

Burns returns to the court on Thursday, Jan. 10, when they host Vale in their opening league game.
