Jack Christy Dalton

Jack Christy Dalton passed away March 11 at the age of 94.

Jack was born in Hollywood, Calif., to Florence and Chester Dalton of Burns. After a few years, his family moved back to Burns, where he grew up.

Jack graduated from Burns High School, then enlisted in the Army to serve his country during World War II. He joined the Army Rangers in North Africa, then went to Italy to serve with Darby’s Rangers.

Jack married Doris Heistand of Burns when he returned from the war. Soon, they moved to Ashland, where he attended Southern Oregon College, earning a teaching degree. Jack moved his family to Arizona where he was offered a teaching position, and stayed there for 58 years. He continued his education at Arizona State University. There, he was conferred with a master’s in education. He retired to the Verde Valley in Arizona after teaching for 25 years.

Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris; son, Duston; daughters, Julie and Allyson; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Truxton; and his youngest son, Sanford.
