Daniel O’Toole 1933-2019

Daniel O’Toole passed away peacefully June 22, with family by his side.

Daniel was born Jan. 1, 1933, at the O’Toole ranch in Drewsey, to Michael and Anna (Swestris) O’Toole. He grew up on the ranch in Drewsey and, following the death of his father, he took over operation of the ranch and graduated from Crane Union High School. He was drafted into the Army in 1957, and served in the 101st Airborne Division. He married his beautiful wife, Maureen Kane, Sept. 2, 1961. They moved to Portland in the fall of 1964 where Dan attended the University of Portland while working two jobs, and received his bachelor’s degree in accounting. He then worked for the General Accounting Office in Portland until the family moved to Richland in 1972. Dan worked for the Department of Energy until his retirement.

He was a devoted parishioner at Christ the King Catholic Church. He volunteered at the Richland Food Bank for many years. He enjoyed spending time with family, including many trips to Ireland connecting with relatives there. He also enjoyed coaching baseball and attending his grandkids’ events. He was also an avid fan of Gonzaga basketball and Notre Dame football.

Dan is survived by his wife, Maureen; daughter, Theresa (Randy) Mitchell; daughter, Mary (Kim) Kristensen; and son, Marty (Maureen) O’Toole. He was a proud grandpa to Ryan Murphy, Megan, Danny, and Colleen Mitchell, Sean, Mary Kate, and Michael O’Toole, and Karl Kristensen; great-grandchildren, Addy and Cash Murphy. Also surviving are siblings, Margaret Ferrarin, Pat O’Toole, Coleen Georgeff, Barbara Gibbons, and Diane “Katy” Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Eddie; sister, Eileen; and twin brother, Tom.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic School.

Rosary was held June 28 at Einan’s Funeral Home in Richland, Wash., with Mass of Christian Burial on June 29. Internment was July 1 at Burns Cemetery in Burns.
