Election update

With the primary election coming up on May 19, 2020, the Harney County Clerk began accepting declarations of candidacy or petitions for nomination or election. The earliest day to file for the following positions was Sept. 12, 2019, and the last day to file will be March 10, 2020.

Up for election in the 2020 election cycle are Harney County Assessor, nonpartisan four-year term, currently held by Ted Tiller; Harney County Commissioner, Position 1, nonpartisan four-year term, currently held by Mark Owens; Harney County Clerk, nonpartisan four-year term, currently held by Derrin “Dag” Robinson; Harney County Sheriff, nonpartisan four-year term, currently held by David Ward.

The offices of Harney County District Attorney and Circuit Court Judge are also up for election. However, candidates must file with the Elections Division of the Secretary of State’s office. Those positions are currently held by Joseph Lucas and William Cramer Jr., respectively.

As of Friday, Sept. 13, Derrin “Dag” Robinson has filed for reelection to the office of Harney County Clerk, Chris Nisbet and Mark Creighton have filed for Harney County Sheriff, and Rob Raschio has filed for Circuit Court Judge.

Also up for election in 2020 for Harney County will be the following partisan federal and state offices: U.S. President, U.S. Senator, U.S. Representative, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, State Senator, State Representative, three Judges of the Supreme Court, and five Judges of the Court of Appeals.
