The Crane Mustangs rolled to a 58-0 win over Cove on Friday, Oct. 11, improving to 3-1 in league, and 5-1 overall.

The Leopards had no answer for the Mustangs’ breakaway speed, as Crane scored four touchdowns of 40 yards or more in the victory.

Chase Joyce put Crane up early as he returned a Cove punt 55 yards for a score early in the first quarter. Rixon Doman ran in for two-point conversion, giving Crane an 8-0 lead.

The Crane defense forced Cove to punt again on their next possession, giving the Mustangs a first down at their own 46. On the fourth play from scrimmage, R. Doman broke free for a 43-yard TD run, and a 14-0 Crane advantage.

A 67-yard pass completion by the Leopards on their next possession put them deep into Crane territory, but an interception by Seth Doman eliminated the scoring threat, and gave Crane the ball at their own 9.

The Mustangs marched downfield in just four plays, getting the touchdown on a 15-yard run by Joyce. R. Doman threw to S. Doman for the two-point try, and Crane was up 22-0.

The Mustangs made it 30-0 in the second quarter on a 63-yard touchdown pass from R. Doman to S. Doman, and a two-point conversion run by Joyce.

After stopping Cove on their next possession, the Mustangs’ Ty Taylor returned the punt 37 yards for a score, making it 36-0.

Crane took over at their own 21 following another Cove punt, and Joyce scored on a 65-yard run on the second play from scrimmage, and the two-point conversion made it 44-0 with 3:48 left in the first half.

Taylor then picked off a Cove pass, giving Crane a first down at the Leopards’ 44. Glen Starbuck then raced 36 yards for the score, and R. Dixon ran for  the two-point conversion, putting Crane ahead 52-0 going into halftime.

Because of the 45-point rule, the game went to a running clock the entire second half, and Chris Eilertson scored the game’s final TD on a 24-yard run.

The Mustangs rushed for 341 yards, led by R. Doman, who ran for 106 yards and one score on just three carries. Joyce carried five times for 92 yards and two scores, and Starbuck added 46 yards and one TD on four carries.

R. Doman threw just one pass, the 63-yard completion to S. Doman for the score. Mitch Clark completed both of his pass attempts for 47 yards in a relief role.

Crane will take to the road on Friday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Wallowa (1-3, 1-5) for another league contest. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
