Crane’s Taelor Hammack blasts a shot over the net in the Mustangs’ match with Crosshill Christian.

Leading two games to one, the Crane volleyball team appeared ready to defeat Crosshill Christian in the second round of the OSAA 1A state playoffs on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Crane Union High School.

But then, the Eagles turned the tables on the Mustangs by winning the final two games, and earning a spot in the 1A final-eight bracket.

Crane won the first game 25-22, lost the second 23-25, picked up a 25-18 victory in the third game, before dropping the final two games, 16-25, 12-15.

The first game was a see-saw affair, with neither team getting more than four points ahead before Crane held onto the win.

Crane was leading 16-12 in the second game when Crosshill Christian started their comeback, eventually tying the game at 17-17. They then went up 24-20 and surrendered three points before getting the game-winner.

The Mustangs took control of the third game early, leading by as much as 20-13 before pulling away for the win.

Crosshill Christian then regained the momentum for the final two games and picked up the win.

The Mustangs finished the season with a 16-10 record.
