The Hilanders’ Hunter Kemper puts in a three-quarter nelson on his Vale opponent.

It would appear the Burns wrestling team is ready to make another run at a 3A state title.

After their run of 10 consecutive 3A state championships came to an end after the 2011 title, the Hilanders dropped a little bit off the radar. Now, the Hilanders are back on the radar in a big way. Ranked No. 1 by both the OSAAtoday 3A coaches poll and the Oregon Wrestling Forum, the Hilanders laid credence to the ranking by winning the 3A championship at the Oregon Wrestling Classic held Jan. 17-18 in Redmond.

Burns rolled throughout the round-robin portion of the tournament, defeating Harrisburg, Scio, and Yamhill/Carlton.

Once reaching the championship bracket, Burns beat South Umpqua 72-12, downed Willamina/Falls City 43-33, and won the title by defeating Dayton 60-24.
