David Jay Jones, son of Wm. Idris Jones and LaVon E. Safford, passed away June 2 in Grants Pass, after a lengthy illness.

David was born March 1, 1960, in Burns, and grew up in Hines, youngest of eight children.

He attended Hines Elementary, Burns Union High School, class of 1978, and Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario.

After a stint in the National Guard, David spent several years in Missouri where he became the father of David Jr., born in 1986 in Kansas City. While in Missouri, David trained and showed horses, of which he really enjoyed. At one point, he went to Africa to help teach locals how to care for their horses and how to ride.

In recent years, David had lived in Gold Beach, and before he became ill, he took a lot of pride in landscaping.

He is known to be survived by brothers, John (Marilyn) Jones of Drain, and George (Beverly) Jones of Ontario; sisters, Martha Landers of Pendleton and Betty Mendoza of Bend; and many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom and Earl; infant sister, Mary; and great-niece, Mikaela Reser.

Interment will be in the Memorial Garden next to his brother, Earl, in the Burns Cemetery. Due to coronavirus, a memorial service will be held at a much later date.
