Harney County Clerk’s Office releases important election information

The Harney County Clerk’s Office released the following information regarding the upcoming election:

• The Presidential Election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.

• The last day for NEW Oregon voters to register to vote for the Nov. 3 General Election is Tuesday, Oct. 13.

• Oregon is entirely vote-by-mail.

• You do not need to request an absentee ballot UNLESS you will not be at your home address between Oct. 14 and Nov. 3.

• Check the status of your voter registration, NOW, with the county clerk or online at www.oregonvotes.gov — My Vote. Ballots will not/can not be forwarded. We start preparing ballots for mailing beginning Sept. 23, so the sooner you update, the more likely you will receive your ballot timely.

• Ballots will be mailed to all active registered voters beginning Oct. 14. If you have not received a ballot by Oct. 23, call the county clerk’s office to inquire at 541-573-6641.

• Voted ballots are due in the clerk’s office or in an official ballot drop box by 8 p.m. on election day, Nov. 3. Postmarks do NOT count.

• We urge you to vote early. You do not have to wait until election day to vote and return your ballot.

• Ballots are postage paid, but if you are concerned with mailing your ballot back through the Postal Service, or if you wait until the last week before the election to vote, use an official ballot drop box.

Ballot drop box locations

• Drive-up box at the rear of the courthouse in Burns;

• Drive-up box under the flag at Hines City Hall;

• Drive-up box across from Fellowship Church in Crane.;

• Hand deliver to the clerk’s office.

Do NOT mail ballots after Tuesday, Oct. 27. Use an official drop box!
