Evelyn Anne (Davis) Stewart 1943 – 2021

Evelyn Anne (Davis) Stewart passed away in Bend at St. Charles Hospital on March 9, 2021.

She was born in Santa Barbara, Calif. March 25, 1943, raised in San Pedro, Calif., where she met Louis Andrew Stewart, a career Navy enlisted man.

They married in the Free Methodist Church in San Pedro on December 10, 1960. They had four children, Louis Allen, born January 5, 1962 in Redondo Beach, Calif., Daniel Augustus, born February 1, 1964 in Key West, Fla., Yvonne Annette, born September 20, 1965 in key West, Fla., and David Arnold, born August 5, 1970 in Torrance, Calif.

Her husband retired from the Navy in 1975 and they moved to Burns where she spent the remainder of her life, except for the time she worked for the VA in Walla Walla, Wash.

She was preceded in death by a number of her family members. The hardest on her was the deaths of her son, Daniel Augustus Stewart and brother, Preston Lynn Robinson.

Evelyn came from a large family. Her mother, Agatha Alta (Davis) Robinson and husband, Preston Lee Robinson; aunt, Evelyn (Davis) Thomas and husband, Fred; uncle, George Preston Davis and wife, Mildred; Uncle L. C. Davis and wife, Fora; aunt, Ruth (Davis) Deason and husband, William; uncle, Bill Davis and wife Evelyn L.; aunt, Delores (Davis) Aguallo and husband, Jess.

Evelyn was the oldest of 21 cousins. She had one sister, Alta Rae (AKA Susie) Lawson; two brothers, Lawrence Lee Robison and Preston Lynn Robison. She had ten grandchildren, Michele Rae Stewart, Micheal Lee Manning, Crystal Marie Manning, Felisha Rose Fernandez, Taya Rae Stewart, David Austin Stewart, Rebeccah Raeann Stewart, Melissa McElhannon, and Samantha Delay. Louis Allen Stewart married Sheila (Jordan) Stewart and they are the parents of Michele Rae (Stewart) Elwell; Daniel Augustus Stewart married Janet (Delay) Stewart and are the parents of Melissa McElhannon and Samantha Delay; Yvonne Annette (Stewart) Coyne married John Manning and are the parents of Micheal Lee Manning and Crystal Manning; Yvonne Annette (Stewart) and Julian Fernandez are the parents of Felisha Rose Fernandez; David Arnold Stewart married Cynthia (Nixon) Stewart and they are the parents of Rebeccah Raeann Stewart. Cynthia is also the proud step-mother to Taya Rae Stewart and David Austin Stewart. She has 23 great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother. She absolutely adored her children and took great joy in raising them. She had to take complete control of all household duties when her husband was deployed.

After her children were old enough, she worked outside the home to help with needed income. Initially she worked as a short order cook for the Navy Exchange Cafeteria in Long Beach, Calif. and Norfolk, Va.

After Louis retired, she worked at the lumber mill in Hines until they moved to Walla Walla, Wash. when Louis was employed at the penitentiary. She eventually was employed at the VA kitchen in Walla Walla. She started out as a part-time employee, then a full-time employee and worked her way up to the position of Cook Leader.

After Louis retired from the penitentiary, she retired from the VA and they returned to Burns for the rest of her days. In 2019, she was flown to St. Charles Hospital in Bend for an emergency surgery, which caused her kidneys to fail, causing her to be placed on dialysis. After being in the hospital for about 2 months, she was transferred to a medical rehab facility in Redmond for treatment and recovery. Then it was back to Bend while her husband and daughter, Yvonne, received training to do her dialysis at home.

She started having low blood pressure problems, causing dialysis to be ineffective. Evelyn was transported to the Harney District Hospital emergency and was flown to St. Charles ICU on March 6, 2021. They tried to do dialysis on her and it was ineffective, causing her organs to shut down, and ultimately, her death.

She was cremated and we plan to have a celebration of life later this year in June. We request that any donations be made to a charity of your choice.
