VETERAN Donald Kim McDermond 1953 – 2021

Donald Kim McDermond passed away at his home on March 23, 21, with his wife by his side.

Don was born July 16, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah. His parents were Donald Chase McDermond and Lucile (Jenning), they were married in 1948 and by 1955 they had five children together.

Don was their fourth child, they got divorced after 10 years of marriage. Don’s mom remarried in 1960 to C.H. McIntosh and together they had a daughter in 1961.

Don joined the Navy in 1972 and got out in 1974. Don loved his guns, he enjoyed hunting deer, elk, and sage rats whenever he could, he also loved to fish. Don was a bit tease to his family and friends, he loved telling a good story.

Don met his first wife, Judith Ruther-Ford while in college where they briefly dated. They soon married and had three children together. After 12 years of marriage, they divorced.

Don was a single dad raising his children by himself when he met Luccettie Gunkel while she was in Crane on vacation visiting family.

He thought that he would never find love again. She was the love o his life and they celebrated 31 years of marriage on Oct. 28, 2020. 

Don is survived by his wife, Luccettie, two daughters, Clarissa Wade and her busband Brien; Dona McDermond; two sons, Albert McDermond and wife Allison; Donald McDermond; brothers, Terry McDermond and wife, Eollen; two younger sisters, Tamra Stoddart and Ginny Dufurrena and husband Hank Jr.; Two grandsons, Hayden and Tom; two granddaughters, Penny and Lauralye. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Cherie McDermond.

A celebration of life for Don will be held at the Mormon Church in Crane April 10, at 2 p.m. Any donation would be greatly appreciated to offset funeral expenses. Donations can be sent to LaFollette’s Chapel PO Box 488 Burns, Oregon 97720.
