Hilanders dominate Hawks in first round

The Hilander volleyball team defeated the La Pine Hawks in the first round of the OSAA 3A Volleyball State Tournament.

The second-seeded Hilanders hosted the Hawks on Saturday, Oct. 30 and won in three sets 25-8, 25-15, 25-17.

Kaitlyn Wright led the Hilanders with 14 kills, followed by Mackenzie King with 11. Akylah Kaino added eight, Caitlyn Horrell finished with six, and Ashley Wright had three.

Kaya Dobson and K. Wright each finished with 100 percent serving.

Kaino led the team with six blocks, Horrell had five, King ended with four, and K. Wright and A. Wright each had one.

Macy Temple led Burns with eight digs. K. Wright followed with seven, A. Wright and King had five apiece, Dobson finished with four, Kaino had two, and Klaire Theall and Caitlyn Horrell had one each.

A. Wright led the team with 33 of the team’s 35 assists.

With the win, Burns (26-3) advanced to the quarterfinals of the OSAA 3A Volleyball State Tournament where they hosted seventh-seeded Willamina (13-3) on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Results were not available by press time.
