Mustangs continue to roll

The Crane Mustang boys basketball team participated in the three-day Crusade Classic New Year’s Invitational at Salem Academy High School, Dec. 30 through Jan. 1.

On the first day, the Mustangs destroyed the Gervais Cougars 65-22. Cody Siegner finished with a double-double, scoring 22 points along with 13 rebounds. Mitch Clark finished with 12 points, Jared Zander had eight, and Carter Nichols had eight points and five assists.

On the second day of the tournament, the Mustangs defeated Gold Beach 53-40 by holding the Panthers to 23 percent from the field and forcing 13 turnovers.

Siegner secured his second double-double of the tournament, finishing with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and two assists. Zander contributed nine points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Ty Taylor finished with nine points and eight rebounds. Clark ended with nine points.

Crane’s last game of the tournament was much closer. Fortunately, the Mustangs were able to hold off Country Christian and capture the Green Bracket Championship with a 54-53 win over the Cougars. In addition to banking more baskets, the Mustangs forced 20 Cougar turnovers.

Siegner captured his third double-double of the tournament, scoring 17 points and racking up 14 rebounds. Taylor Krueger had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Nichols added 12 points, five rebound, and four assists.

The No. 2 ranked Mustangs head into league play 8-0 and played at Prairie City on Tuesday, Jan. 4. Results were not available by press time.
