Neva “Lorene” Kincaid 1922 – 2022

Neva “Lorene” Kincaid, of Heber City, Utah passed away on April 11, 2022, almost two months after celebrating her 100th birthday.

Lorene was born in Olivet, Ill. to Herbert and Daisy (Sheline) Hester. After moving around frequently as a young girl, Lorene graduated from Franklin Bench High School in Boise, Idaho in 1940 before moving to Burns, where she worked for both Burns High School and the Edward Hines Lumber Company.

In 1942 Lorene married Irvin (Irv) Kincaid and a year later the couple purchased their first home in Burns, before eventually building a home in Hines. The couple was blessed with two children, Dennis and Barbara.

After staying home raising her children when they were young, Lorene returned to work at Burns High School where she worked in the office from 1958 through 1966. After working at the high school, Lorene started working for Oregon Northwest Telephone Company in Burns. In 1978 Irv and Lorene moved to Redmond, where she continued to work for the telephone company until her retirement in 1984.

After the death of Irv in 2000, Lorene eventually moved back to Burns to be close to her daughter before moving to Utah to be close to her granddaughter-in-law and angel in disguise, Monica Kelly.

Lorene’s life was defined by her love and faithful dedication to her family. From helping raise her grandchildren in Hines, to caring for her husband in his last years, to accompanying her daughter when she had to make long trips, Lorene was a steady presence in her family.

Lorene always kept up with the events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren by attending ballgames, graduations and weddings, and praying for them on a daily basis.  As she aged, many of the activities she enjoyed doing such as reading, playing cards, and going for walks became more difficult, but her devotion to her family continued.

In her last years she looked forward to her daily visits with Monica and her phone calls with her grandchildren, especially the 6:00 p.m. daily phone calls from her grandson Jon. She had set a goal to make it to her 100th birthday, which she accomplished surrounded by family and friends in a great celebration where she continued to show her sassiness, even at the age of 100.

Lorene is survived by her grandchildren, Jon (Rhonda) Kelly, Monica Kelly, Mark (Heidi) Kincaid, and Amy (Bruce) Henderson; eight great-grandchildren: Tyler and Kyle Kelly; Silas, Nathan, Levi, and Jesse Kincaid; and Bailey and Ezekiel Henderson. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Irv; her children and their spouses, Dennis (Sue) Kincaid and Barbara (Santi) Urcaregui; and her grandson, Pat Kelly.

While we all miss grandma’s steady presence we can rejoice in her new home in heaven and being able to reunite with those loved ones that have gone on before her.
