Victor W. Welch 1972 – 2022

Victor W. Welch was born Jan. 23, 1972 and passed away June, 28, 2022.

Victor lived out his younger years in the Mid-West, then later became a resident of Fairfield, Calif. before moving to Crane. He became very acquainted with the people around Burns while maintaining our relationship with many visits here in California as well. Victor had a passion for military vehicles and anything to do with US history around war times.

He had intended to open a military museum on his land in Crane but time was not on his side. Victor was also on the road much of the time driving mostly Big Wheels across the states. He loved to drive long haul! The stops he made along the way were resting grounds to get to know people so pretty much wherever he went he made a friend. He never knew a stranger. He was loyal to his friends and was a man of his word. People loved his dry sense of humor and his good nature.

He also could be more stubborn than a mule which often got him what he set out to accomplish as he never quit or gave up. You might say he put the “P” in persistence. He was always helping out someone in tight situations by either providing what he thought they needed or by going to work to get the job done.

He liked investigating new projects or innovative ideas to create new enterprises that would serve others while at the same time create income. He especially liked the Mennonite people in Oregon. He was impressed with their integrity and commitment to each other. I had the good pleasure of meeting many of his friends around Burns who I know will miss him. A shout out to Mandie, one of my favorites of Victor’s.

Victor was a one of a kind person with a big heart who cared little about what people thought. He was usually clean but style was not his thing. That’s why you could often catch him wearing white calf socks, Li’l Abner boots, with camo shorts sporting a NewsBoy style cap and nothing matched. What you saw was what you got, he was out to impress no one. He never really slowed down until his health took a turn for the worse and he just went really fast.

However, he died doing what he loved most, making one last road trip with a good friend from California to his property in Oregon. He visited his favorite hot springs and met up with a few friends along the way. In talking to him on the phone he sounded so happy and so good, if you didn’t know better you wouldn’t have had any idea how sick he was. Victor, passed in route returning from Oregon to Vacaville near Redding, Calif. He was blessed to live out his last weeks with us as we were with him. We made sure he was never alone and were able to grant him his last wish to make one last road trip.

We were all like family so you can say he left behind his brother’s and sister’s, Aaron Scott, Victor G. and family, Ryan Scott, Ryan German, Amber Scott and myself Debbie Gladen aka “auntie”. There are others too who I don’t know who were both family and friends that Victor cared a lot for. I am hoping you find this obituary. I am sorry to deliver this sad news. You know who you are and I hope you can find closure for your loss. If you want to reach me, email me at GrammiesCorner24@duck.com.

One regret Aaron and I have is we didn’t get to go on his last adventure but we know it was a hoot of a good time! One thing for sure is he is in his true home now where there is no more death and suffering. Victor will always be in our thoughts and many memories. Until we meet again old friend! Thank you for being such an important part of our lives.
