Hilander volleyball opens the season at Mountain View Invitational

The Burns Hilander volleyball team opened its season at Mountain View High School, where it faced off against 5A teams Mountain View and Crater and 6A team Sheldon on Friday, Aug. 26.

In the first game, the Hilanders defeated Mountain View in two sets, 25-22, 25-23.

Caitlyn Horrell led Burns with eight kills, and Akylah Kaino finished with five. Danye Runnels and Ashley Wright finished with one apiece.

Reese Rothwell led with four aces. Macy Temple and Lacie Tiller finished with one.

Kaino led with six blocks. Rothwell ended with two. Wright and Horrell had one apiece.

Temple led the team with 14 digs, Tiller had seven, Runnels had five, and Kasey Winn had four.

Wright led the team with 11 of the 13 assists.

In the second game, the Hilanders faced off against the Sheldon Irish and fell in straight sets, 8-25, 8-25.

Runnels, Wright, Kaino, Horrell, and Rothwell each had one kill.

Kaino led the team in blocks with three. Wright, Horrell, and Rothwell finished with one.

Temple led Burns with nine digs. Tiller finished with seven. Halle Houck, Winn, and Wright had one each.

Wright had all four assists.

In the last game of the day, the Hilanders fell to the Crater Comets in straight sets, 23-24, 21-25.

Leading the team in kills was Horrell with 10. Kaino had four, Klaire Theall finished with three. Runnels, Wright, and Rothwell ended with one.

Horrell also led the team with three blocks. Kaino and Rothwell finished with two.

Temple and Tiller led the team with six digs each. Runnels and Rothwell finished with four. Houck and Wright had two. Winn ended with one.

Wright led Burns with 16 assists, and Runnels finished with one.

The Hilanders next face off against Cascade Christian at Sisters High School on Thursday, Sept. 1. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
