Youngsters crafted cute scarecrows from recycled bottles during the PMC Kids harvest party in October.

It seems like October just sneaked in, and suddenly it’s over! Where did it go so quickly? Maybe the beautiful weather, which allowed us to enjoy our last bits of summer, made the month fly by. This past month, I harvested the last few raspberries off our vines and sat in our garden swing for just a few more mornings. With winter closing in quickly, it was nice to relax and savor the warm, welcoming sunshine.

PMC had a wonderful month of creating, crafting, and celebrating the season with a harvest party!

For PMC Kids this month, we created scarecrows out of recycled wine and cider bottles. An array of raffia, paint, flowers, and straw hats covered our tables. The kids and parents were laughing as they created the cutest scarecrow faces. The kids had to be patient as they waited for each layer of paint to dry, but it wasn’t all boring.

After all, it was a party! We had indoor carnival games (borrowed from Plectrum Music Company) and an assortment of scarecrow cupcakes. We also offered a few healthier options. I cannot wait until next year when the snacks will be grown by the kids and folks at PMC. However, with colder weather approaching, that project will have to wait until next spring.

November will be just as exciting at PMC, as we open the month with candle making. The next PMC Kids event will be Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. Register early, as classes fill up quickly! We’ll end the month with two classes — cigar box guitar building with Dan from Plectrum Music Company and creative writing. If you haven’t seen the cigar box guitars, you can check them out at Plectrum Music and even play one!

Register for all classes at pmcarts.org or call me (Misti) at 541-406-8390.

Scholarship opportunities may be available for children to take a PMC Kids class. PMC donors pay for a few classes at a time, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you could use some help covering the cost of class for your child.
