For the past several weeks, Safeway in Burns has been fundraising to buy Thanksgiving dinners for local families.

More than $9,000 were raised for this cause. Thanks to the generosity of the community, Safeway was able to partner with the local food bank to donate a total of 156 dinners to Harney County families on Monday, Nov. 21.

Local Safeway staff distributed more than 100 dinners to Harney County families in front of the store. Slater Elementary received 38 dinners, and another 15 dinners were sent to Burns High School. Employees at the Burns Safeway will continue to request donations to feed local families for Christmas as well.
