Meta (Connie) Goddard 1951 – 2023

Meta was born on Aug. 3, 1951 to Lincoln and Donna Goddard in Ashland, and passed away Feb. 9, 2023 in Albuquerque, N.M.

The family moved to Burns in 1960 where Meta attended school, graduating from high school in 1969. After attending college, she married and moved to John Day where she subsequently began her career with the Forest Service while continuing to tend bar part-time. She enjoyed pool so much she played on a league.

After 20 plus years in John Day, she transferred from small town living to Phoenix, Ariz., and loved it there. She responded to those who mentioned the extreme heat with, “no matter how hot it got she didn’t have to shovel it.” She thrived in her new environment with friends and coworkers she truly enjoyed. Her job next took her to Albuquerque, N.M., where she spent the remainder of her career and retired from the Forest Service in 2013.

In addition to being an avid reader, Meta taught herself the art of chain maille jewelry.  In 2013 she entered the “All That Glitters” jewelry competition and won first place in her division for her chain maille bracelet. She generously shared the results of her talent with her family and friends.

Her last years were not kind to her physically, but thanks to the generous help of Al Cesarz and later Andrew Rael and family, she was able to live at home until she required full-time care.

She is survived by her sisters, Kathy Goddard (Bend), Liz Appelman (Burns); and her brother, Walt and sister-in-law, Marlene (Elko, Nev.); her niece, Malia Goddard; and nephews, Tade and Calen Goddard; four great-nieces; one great-nephew; one great-great nephew; and two great-great-nieces.

Meta was known for her quick wit, sarcastic bent and ability with words which all stayed with her until the end. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

There will be no services. Please make any donations to a pet rescue organization or the charity of your choice.  Condolences can be made at the mortuary website obituary: www.directfuneralservicesabq.com/obituary/meta-goddard
