Spring is looming closer (at least we hope so), but things have not slowed down here at PMC Arts & Culture Foundation. Last month, we hosted our second Bob Ross painting class with loads of laughter and fun. I think our regular classmates are becoming amazing artists!

Our gardening program will begin in April, with PMC Kids Seedlings and Lil’ Sprouts (ages 3-11). Baker Creek Heirloom Seed Company sent us a variety of seeds to get us going, and we want to thank them publicly for their help. Our Budding Gardeners (ages 12-17) will also begin in April. We can’t wait for spring, and I hope that the gardens aren’t still under snow when we prepare for class.

Also, as April nears, we are readying ourselves for the scholarship season. This year, PMC Arts & Culture Foundation will be awarding a $500 scholarship to a high school senior in Harney County. Scholarship applicants must be going into an arts or agriculture major. Applications will be dropped off at Burns High School, Crane High School, and Silvies River Charter School. Students can also check our website when the application opens on April 1. We will need all completed applications back to us by May 1. The award will be announced at the Blackbird (formerly Beer & Brats) Music Festival, which will be hosted by Plectrum Music Company on June 10.

We’d also like to extend an invitation for arts and music students to sign up for our 15 Minutes of Fame shows, which will take place throughout the day during the music festival. Performances can include short plays, songs, poems, or something else creative. (Does anyone want to do some speed painting?) High school art students are also welcome to participate in the art show. This will be a fun way to showcase what our Harney County students are doing artistically and creatively. We will have first, second, and People’s Choice awards. Artists/performers can sign up for either the 15 Minutes of Fame or the art show at Plectrum Music Company (located at 29 W. Washington Street in Burns) or via email at pmcartsfoundation@gmail.com. If you have any questions, email pmcartsfoundation@gmail.com or call 541-406-8390.
