Easterday Ranches places first in the Harney County Ranch Rodeo

Twenty teams competed for cash and prizes at the 20th annual Harney County Ranch Rodeo held Saturday, July 8, at the Harney County Fairgrounds.

Teams of four to five cowboys and cowgirls competed in seven different events for the top spot. The Easterday Ranches team — consisting of Dusty Easterday, Shaun Lequerica, Brian Grenke, Clayton Brum, and Bailey Berrett — emerged victorious. Each team member received $1,000 and their choice of prizes.

Second place went to the Anseth Ranch team, which is made up of Quentin Anseth, Cleve Anseth, Jim Berrett, Junior Harney, and Riata Anseth. They each received $600 and a pick of prizes.

The Arritola Livestock team (Tucker Hill, Sylas York, Zalin Arritola, Zeb Ramsden, and Michelle Williams) finished third. They each took home $400 and a choice of prizes.

Team Trophy Hunter (Tyler Opie, Trevor Knowles, Ryan Opie, Tate Sword, and Brynn Lehman) placed fourth, earning $200 per person and a pick of prizes.

The top four teams had their pick of the following prizes:
• Rawhide reins made by Dan Fowler;
• Five-start saddle pads;
• RTIC coolers; and
• Duluth Camp Chairs with leather work by AC Leather Designs.

The Top Hand award went to Clayton Brum of Easterday Ranches, and he received a custom hat made by Gene Baldwin of Sisters.

Event winners and prizes are as follows:
Team branding: King Ropes — Anseth Ranch (Time 2.34), Cleve Anseth, Quinton Anseth, Jim Berret, and Junior Harney.
Ranch doctoring: Case of knives donated by Joe and Becky Kingen — Easterday Ranches (Time 36.04), Dusty Easterday, Clayton Brum, Shaun Lequerica, and Brian Grenke.
Steer stopping: RTIC backpack cooler with leather work by AC Leather Designs — Trophy Hunters (Time 4:09), Brynn Lehman.
Saddle Bronc Riding: Custom hat donated by Lisa Robinson — Mike & The Boys (Score 75), Cash Casey.
Trailer loading: Rein chains by Bill Grant — Silver Creek Ranch (Time 36.44), Vinnie Padilla, Paul Padilla, Cash Davis, and Christian Stremler.
Team roping: Bex sunglasses — Under The Table Gang (Time 68.98 on two head), Willy Stoddart, Wyatt Clark, John Opie, and Todd Carson.
Horse roping: Cinches by Alyssa Vaughn (2-Fast Time) — Under The Table Gang (Time 10.62), Willy Stoddart and Todd Carson.

This year, all contestants who paid their fees were entered into a drawing for a slew of items. The top prize was a custom saddle made by Brad Mastre with stirrups by Johnny Miller. Brian Grenke of Easterday Ranches was the lucky winner. Paul Padilla of Silver Creek Ranch won the Merlin Rupp draw prize of a bosell made by JC Sykes. Willy Stoddart of Under The Table Gang won the Harney County made bridle set, which contained a headstall by Tim Aldman, bit/silver work by Pat Horlacher, rein chains by Bill Grant, and custom rawhide reins by Dan Fowler.
