Hilander football trounces La Pine

Jack Wright threw for over 350 hundred yards and five touchdowns (four to Jaxon Hoyt) in a 41-0 win over the visiting La Pine Hawks on Friday, Sept. 8.

Sporting their new home uniforms, the Hilanders started off fast, putting 15 points on the board in the first quarter. They added another score to go into halftime at 22-0.

Head coach Matt Bruck said, “I’m incredibly proud of how well we played tonight. There were some things from our first game against Sisters that we cleaned up, but we still have plenty of room to grow and improve.”

Burns came out in the second half and added another three scores to seal the game away. The Hilanders racked up 424 yards of total offense — 356 through the air and 68 on the ground.

Wright completed 21 of 30 attempts for 356 yards and five touchdowns.

Hoyt led the receiving crew, catching nine passes for 100 yards and four touchdowns. Canon Winn caught five passes for 86 yards. Jace Anderson had three receptions for 82 yards. Coltin Miller caught three passes for 46 yards, and Orion Houck caught one pass for 42 yards and a touchdown.

Tommy Winn led Burns in rushing, running the ball three times for 30 yards. Leon Dave had eight rushing attempts for 28 yards and one touchdown. Hoyt carried the ball twice for 12 yards.

Defensively, the Hilanders held La Pine to just 165 yards of total offense — 93 though the air and 72 on the ground. Leading the charge was Hoyt and Easton Kemper, each notching 10 tackles. Kemper finished with two sacks, while Hoyt and Braeden Cushing had one sack each.

Burns moves to 1-1 on the season and will host Ontario on Friday, Sept. 15, and their high-powered offense. The Tigers have put up 137 points in their first two games of the season. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
