Hilanders down Nyssa Bulldogs and Pendleton Buckaroos at home

Mackenzie King racked up 13 kills against Pendleton.

Burns hosted the Nyssa Bulldogs and Pendleton Buckaroos in volleyball on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

The Hilanders took down Nyssa in league action in three sets, 25-8, 25-11, 25-15.

Akylah Kaino led Burns with eight kills, while Mackenzie King and Danye Runnels added six kills each. Myah Rothwell had four kills, while Jocelyn Graham and Ashely Wright finished with three. Natalee Otley-Smith had one.

Runnels led the team with seven aces and 100 percent serve. Graham finished with three aces and 100 percent serve, and Wright added three aces. Bailey Temple, Kaino, and King each finished with two aces.

M. Rothwell had the team’s lone block, and Taylor Trent finished with all three assists.

Runnels led again, as she picked up seven digs on the game. Temple and Kaino had four digs, and Wright had three. Graham, King, and M. Rothwell added two each. Trent, Chloe Rothwell, and Hayley Smith had one dig apiece.

In their next game, Burns took down Pendleton in three sets 25-16, 25-8, 25-21.

Kaino and King had 16 and 13 kills for the game. Graham and Wright had two kills, while Runnels and M. Rothwell finished with one.

Wright led the team with five aces and 100 percent serve. King finished with four aces and 100 percent serve. Kaino had three aces, while Runnels had two. Graham ended the day with two aces and 100 percent serve.

Kaino led Burns with five blocks. M. Rothwell had three, and Graham and Runnels added two blocks apiece.

King and Kaino each finished with 11 digs, while C. Rothwell, Wright, and M. Rothwell had four digs. Graham, Temple, and Runnels each had two.

Wright led the team with 28 of the team’s 30 assists.

The team traveled to Sisters High School for the Sisters Invite on Saturday, Sept. 16.

The Hilanders took down Junction City, Catlin Gabel, and The Dalles in pool play. They went into bracketed play, seeded as the No. 2 team, but fell to Mazama in two sets, 25-21, 25-23.

Kaino and King each logged 10 of the team’s 20 total kills.

Graham led Burns with two aces, while Wright and King each had one.

Wright finished with three blocks on the game. Kaino and King ended the game with two apiece.

King’s 11 digs led the team, while Kaino had nine. C. Rothwell finished with six digs, while Graham and Temple each had three. Wright finished the game with one dig and all 16 assists.

The Hilanders are sitting at 8-4 overall and 1-0 in league play.

They traveled to Vale on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Scores and stats were unavailable at press time.

The girls will host Umatilla (0-9) and Riverside (2-7) on Friday, Sept. 22, beginning at 1 p.m., and then McLoughlin (3-4) on Saturday, Sept. 23, with game time set for noon.
