Glen Johnson 1932 – 2023

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Glen Johnson, a beloved husband, and father of nine children. Glen departed this world on Dec. 10, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering commitment to his faith and family.

Born on Nov. 18, 1932, in Barnwell, Alberta, Canada, Glen lived a life marked by his excellent sense of humor, gentleness, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he held dear. As the patriarch of his family, he was a pillar of support and guidance, offering wisdom and love to his wife and children through the years.

Glen served in the United States Air Force as an aerial photographer in the Korean War. He later married his sweetheart Weltha Thompson, on June 3, 1953 and they were later sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. The family recently honored them in June 2023 to celebrate their 70 years together.

Glen was devoted to his wife and family, and in keeping with that, he held most precious the love he had for his Lord and Savior. He was a life-long and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was ordained a Seventy in 1965 and over the years served as a Bishop, a temple worker with Weltha, and a multitude of other church callings to round out a lifetime of dedicated and steadfast service.

Glen was a man of many talents and passions. He combined his love of singing, writing sweet and funny songs, and telling jokes or “roasting” someone, to the delight of all who attended family events and celebrations throughout the years. He also enjoyed golfing with Weltha or their sons, playing roller hockey, riding dirt bikes on family camping trips, (usually broke a rib or two each summer), singing “O Canada!”, cooking wonderful breakfasts for all the family on Christmas morning, watching sports, especially when family were playing, and serenading his wife then kissing her deeply to her utter embarrassment!

During his life, he embraced the values of hard work and integrity, as he proudly supported his family of 11, leaving an indelible mark on any community he called home.

He was an outstanding salesman, with clients becoming friends. It was a special treat for his children to travel with him on his sales calls during summer breaks! He later ran his own company working with family members at times. His commitment to service and generosity touched the lives of countless individuals, earning him the admiration and respect of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

During his 91 years on this earth, Glen was the epitome of love and loyalty. He leaves behind a large posterity, each a testament to the strength of his character and the values he instilled in them. His and Weltha’s home was a haven of warmth and laughter, where love was unconditional and knew no bounds, and the bonds of family were cherished above all else.

Glen is survived by his eternal companion Weltha; his children, Mark Johnson, Stacey [Patti] Johnson, Kevin [Nichole] Johnson, Darwin [Anita] Johnson, Alan [Delight] Johnson, Brian [Heidi] Johnson, Kathryn [Talon] Tolleson, Jeffrey [Shahana] Johnson, and Darcee [Bob] Millican; 47 grandchildren; 108 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Raymond Johnson; and his sister, Sylvia Heaps.

A memorial service to honor Glen’s life will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 600 N. Saginaw, Burns. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m.

Family and friends are invited to join together in remembrance of his full life, well-lived through faith, fun, and always a heavy dose of laughter.
