The Burns Hilander wrestling team finished in second place at the 3A OSAA/OnPoint Wrestling State Championships held at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 22-24.

The Hilanders sent nine wrestlers to state, with seven wrestlers placing in their weight class. Burns managed to score 155 points for the second place finish, behind Harrisburg’s 17 wrestlers scoring 285 points. Banks finished in the third spot with 143.5 points, while La Pine came in fourth scoring 140.5, and Glide finished in the fifth spot with 65.5 points to round out the top-five teams at the tournament.

Brothers Cannon and Easton Kemper, along with Kale Cornell, finished first in their class to became state champions. Joe Weil lost in the championship match for a second place finish, while Kempton Richardson and Hazen Johnson came in third place, and Hayden Cornell finished fifth.
