Megan Weil became the first girl to capture a middle school state wrestling championship at Hines Middle School. 

Weil, wrestling in the girls 185-pound weight class, pinned Mahala Colling from LaCreole Middle School in 27 seconds in the semifinals. She then pinned Sophia Zuniga from Walker Middle School in 2:59 to take home the gold at the 2024 Oregon Middle School State Championships held at West Albany High School on Saturday, March 9.

The Hines Middle School placed sixth in the team standings, scoring 106 points. Liam Shepherd came in second place in the boys 90-pound weight class, while Hadley Gunderson finished in the third spot in the girls 110-pound weight class and Heyzen Sykes finished third in the boys 75-pound weight class.
