Robert Alvin Connall 1935 – 2024

Robert Alvin Connall, 88, of La Grande, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at his residence. At his request, his ashes will be spread on Telephone Butte/King Mountain in Harney County.

Robert was born on May 12, 1935 in Burns, to Lionel and Roselle (Baker) Connall. He resided in Burns/Hines and Harney County Oregon for 86 years and then resided with his daughter for two years in La Grande. Robert served our country while in the United Stated Navy serving on the USS Renville patrolling off the coast of Korea during the Korean War.   He married Peggy Sue Parnell in 1956 in San Diego, Calif.

Before joining the Navy, Robert worked on his grandfather’s and uncle’s ranches. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for 38 years at Edward Hines Lumber Company in Hines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on the ranch, riding 4-wheelers, traveling to many states to visit family and friends. He loved to watch baseball on TV, especially the Mariners. He was a member of the Elks Club BPOE, American Legion and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Robin Mitchell (Marc) of La Grande; sister-in-law, Julia Connall of Redwood City, Calif.; four grandchildren, Robbie Winde (Gunner) of La Grande, Marcus Mitchell (Sabrina) of La Grande, Tessa Allers (Bodine) of Spokane, Wash., and Alisha MacArthur (Derek) of Colville, Wash.; seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and aunt, Kitty Barstad of LaPine; friends/daughters, Gina Valainis, Susan Lewis and Patty Morris all of La Grande. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lionel and Roselle; wife, Peggy Connall; and brother, Lyle Connall.
