Robert “Bob” Smyth 1934 – 2026

Robert “Bob” Smyth passed away Sept. 19, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by his immense heart and an unforgettable love for people. Born March 15, 1934, in Burns, to John and Grace Smyth, Bob was a man who truly never met a stranger. Anyone who knew him knew that he loved to talk, visit, and forge a genuine connection with everyone who crossed his path. He possessed a rare heart of gold, strong passions, and bold opinions that made him truly one of a kind.

Though his life and business travels took him to many places over the years, including Seattle; Bend; and Aspen, Colo,. his heart always belonged to Harney County. He loved traveling for work, viewing it as the perfect opportunity to visit with old friends and make new ones along the way.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanie Smyth; his sister, Carol Sawyer; and his sons, Corey Smyth and Todd Smyth, and granddaughters, Heather Smyth and Whitney Shimokawa. He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck Smyth; his brothers, Loris Smyth and Cactus Smyth; and his sisters, Blair Armstrong and Yvonne Smyth.

Bob’s warmth, energy, and love for community will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A celebration of life is to follow next spring.
