Janet Anne Crafts 1945 – 2026

Janet Anne Crafts passed away peacefully on Oct. 22, 2026, at the age of 81, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly.

Janet was born on Oct. 17, 1945, in Birmingham, England, to Charles and Anne Smith. She was the oldest of 12 children. When Janet was a young girl, her family moved from England to Iowa and eventually made their home in Oregon.

At the age of 14, Janet met the love of her life, Roy Wayne Crafts. The two were inseparable, and when Janet turned 18, they ran away together and married in Winnemucca, Nev. Their love story became the foundation of a lifetime of memories, family, and devotion.

A year after their marriage, they welcomed their first daughter, Sheryl. Two years later, their daughter Carolyn arrived, followed by Barbara two years after that. Finally, they welcomed their son, Roy Crafts Jr. Janet’s family was the center of her world, and being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother brought her immeasurable joy.

In 1979, Wayne’s position at Edward Hines Lumber Mill brought the family to Burns, where they continued building their life together. Janet worked at Jerry’s Restaurant for several years, where she met Nona, who would become her best friend of more than 40 years.

Janet had a generous heart and a natural gift for making people feel welcome. She loved meeting people and believed that everyone deserved kindness. If someone came into the restaurant and couldn’t afford a meal, Janet would make sure they were fed. Helping others was simply part of who she was.

Even after her own children had grown, Janet’s desire to nurture and care for children never faded. She decided to become a foster parent, drawing on the challenges she had experienced during her own childhood. She believed she could connect with children who needed extra love, structure, guidance, and discipline. Janet wanted every child in her care to know they mattered and had someone in their corner. Tyanne, Beth, Lacie, and Kathleen will always hold a special place in her heart.

Some of Janet’s happiest moments were spent camping with her family. Those trips were filled with homemade biscuits and gravy, polyann games, playing on the water trampoline, and evenings gathered around the campfire, laughing and sharing stories. These were the moments Janet treasured most—not because they were extravagant, but because everyone she loved was together.

Janet also enjoyed Saturday yard sales, always on the lookout for a good find. She and Wayne shared a love of quilting and made quilts for each of their children and grandchildren. These handmade gifts were more than blankets; they were pieces of their love, created to be cherished for years to come.

Family traditions meant everything to Janet, and Christmas Eve was her favorite. The whole family would gather for a potluck dinner and a white elephant gift exchange. As the evening went on, Santa would arrive with gifts for the little ones, bringing excitement and joy to the celebration. These gatherings were filled with laughter, love, and the togetherness Janet cherished so much. These were the kind of memories that would become part of her family’s story for generations.

She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, strength, generosity, and unconditional love. Her family will forever remember her warmth, her giving spirit, and the special memories they shared with her. Though her absence will be deeply felt, the traditions she created and the love she poured into the lives of others will continue for generations. Janet’s greatest accomplishment was not measured in things she owned or places she went, but in the lives she touched and the love she gave.

Janet is survived by her children: Sheryl (Eric) Drushella, Carol (Brady) Ellis, Barb Crafts, and Roy (Dawn) Crafts Jr.; her grandchildren, Roxane, Amie, Nathan, Matt, Anthony, Jay, Hanna, Skyer, Tanner, and Taylor; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Carter, Amiyah, Wade, Riley, Shay, Easton, Taya, Seth, Brynlee, Barrett, and Oakley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy W. Crafts; her parents, Charles and Anne Smith; and her siblings, Bob, Deke, Russell, Kenny, and Terri.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026 at 1 p.m.
