An evacuation shelter has been established at Crane High School and limited livestock sheltering is available onsite.

Second Flat Fire

Size: 86,504 acres 

Containment: 5%

Firefighting personnel, Rangeland Fire Protection Associations, County Fire Departments,

Oregon Department of Forestry and Oregon State Fire Marshall are working day and night shifts to suppress, contain, and protect structures impacted by the fire. Firefighters continue to make progress improving containment lines on the eastern and southern portions of the fire impacting local communities in Hines and Burns. Firefighting aircraft assisted with retardant and water drops to further reduce active fire activity. Current strategy is to minimize impacts to critical resources which include but not limited to cattle allotments, structures, property, and homes through coordinated suppression and containment operations. Sheriff’s Office has ordered Level 1, 2 & 3 evacuations in the vicinity of the Second Flat Fire. Visit the Genasys website for more information. Beginning July 29 this fire will be managed by California CIMT4 (Jacobson).

Coleman Creek Fire

Size: 146,292 acres

The Coleman Creek Fire had another day of intense burning and growth. Continued winds pushed the fire mostly east, northeast, and southeast, up to Warm Springs Reservoir and across the War Springs Reservoir Access and Juntura-Riverside roads. On the northern perimeter, containment lines are holding along Highway 20 East at Juntura and to the west from there, as well as directly south of Juntura.

Firefighters will be doing more of the same today, building and securing containment lines and providing point protection as needed.

Jackass Butte Fire

Size: 18,539 acres 

Containment: 22%

Additional resources have been assigned to the fire, which continues to approach containment lines. Aircraft and firefighters remain focused on keeping the fire from spreading across highway 205, while also strengthening and expanding containment lines. Pilot cars are guiding vehicles along State Road 205.

Bald Mountain Fire

Firefighters continue to provide point protection for cabins and structures along the Highway 78 corridor, including the Riddle Road and Manns Lake Ranch. Additional resources will be assigned to this fire today.

The Stubble Fire has not grown since July 26. Firefighters continue to monitor the fire.

The Crater Fire has had no fire activity for several days.

Weather: Today weather conditions are favorable for fire suppression efforts, with the temperature reaching the upper 80’s and relative humidity of 13-18%. Winds are out of the southwest from 10-18mph gusting up to 25mph.

Closures and Safety: The Malheur National Forest has issued and area closure for the Second Flat Fire. 

The Oregon Department of Forestry, (ODF) Central Oregon District, Fire Season – Public Use Restrictions (PURs), Regulated Use Closures (RUCs) are currently in effect.
