The BHS volleyball team started off last week by opening up league play at Nyssa. Burns traveled to Bulldog country on Tuesday, Sept. 15, walking away with a victory after three straight sets to win 25-15, 25-15, 25-13.

Megan Weil led the team in attacking, racking up 14 kills while Amaya Ballard finished the day with 10 kills, and Shelby Peasley added with three kills of her own.

As a team, the Hilanders amassed 20 aces with Bailey Temple leading the way with six of them. Baileigh Nisbet finished with four aces, Coral Averett and Ballard had three aces and Tenley Richardson and Natalee Otley-Smith had two aces each.

Both Ballard and Weil each had one block while Nisbet had 28 of the team’s 29 assists.

Temple led all players with 13 digs, while Nisbet and Peasley each had four.

The team then traveled to Pendleton on Thursday, Sept. 17 for a non-league match up against the Buckaroos. Once again, the Hilanders knocked off Pendleton in straight sets, winning 25-21, 25-20, 25-14.

Weil once again led the team in attacking with 20 kills, while Ballard finished with 10 kills. Averett had five kills.

Nisbet led the team in serving with six aces on the night, while Temple and Weil each picked up four and Ballard had three.

Kristee Condon and Averett both led the team in blocking with three blocks apiece, while Weil finished with one.

Nisbet finished the three sets with 30 of the team’s 31 assists.

Temple finished with 20 dig to lead the team, while Ballard finished with 11, and Weil and Otley-Smith each had eight.

The Hilanders finished up their week with a trip to Sisters for a tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19. In the tournament, the Hilanders defeated Estacada, La Pine, and Taft in straight sets, and losing to Dayton in two sets, 15-25, 14-25.

Weil finished with six kills, Ballard finished with four, Averett with two and Condon had one kill.

Ballard finished the game with the team’s two aces in the game.

Nisbet and Weil each finished with one block each, while Nisbet had 12 of the team’s 13 assists.

Ballard finished with five digs, Nisbet had four, and Temple and Weil each had three.

Burns moves to 9-2 on the season and hosted Vale on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Score and stats were unavailable at press time. They finish off the week with a trip up north. They’ll first play at Riverside on Friday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m., then again at Umatilla at 6:30 p.m. They finish the next day with a game at Mac-Hi, which is set for 1 p.m.
