Nina Faye Travis 1934-2026

Faye Travis, 91, passed away on Oct. 23, 2026, just 12-hours before her 92nd birthday, at Pioneer Place Assisted Living Center in Vale. Faye was born on Oct. 24, 1934, in Prineville, the youngest of seven children born to Harry and Mildred Evans. She was the last surviving child of her parents.

Faye met the love of her life, Roy Lee Travis, at a rodeo in Burns, in 1951. They were married that same year in a double-ring ceremony shared with her sister, Thelma Evans Vaughan. Faye and Roy spent the majority of their 71 years together in Burns. Roy preceded Faye in death in July 2023.

Together, Faye and Roy raised five children and built a beautiful family that grew to include 13 grandkids, 23 great-grandkids and eight great-great-grandkids.

Faye worked for many years at Edward Hines Lumber Company before becoming a cook in the cafeteria at Slater Elementary School. She was known by everyone as a wonderful cook. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, warmth and love.

Faye was a talented and resourceful woman, who could sew anything without a pattern. She played the piano and loved music. Alongside Roy she raised and canned produce from their large garden. Faye especially loved flowers and trees, with her wild yellow roses holding a special place in her heart. Together, she and Roy created a beautiful yard, garden and small orchard where they spent countless happy hours.

Above all, Faye cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who never missed a ball game, rodeo, 4-H or other activities in which her children and grandchildren participated. Her family always knew they could count on mom or grandma for thoughtful advice, wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love.

Her family will forever remember her delicious cinnamon rolls, homemade cookies, and wonderful coffee, along with the warmth and generosity that made everyone feel welcome. Faye’s love for children was one of her most treasured qualities, and the care she gave her family will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

Faye leaves behind her kids: daughter, Bonnie, husband, Jim and grandkids, Joe Arnold, Bridgit Starbuck, Chett Smith and Will Kelley. Son, Stub Travis, granddaughter, Dusty Travis. Daughter, Mary (Sas) Lehman, grandkids, Mick Miller, Mandi Hauth and Codi Couchman. Daughter, Janet Arnold, husband, Pete Arnold and grandkids, Karli Arnold, and Chace Arnold. Daughter, Glennie Cargill, husband, Bob Cargill Jr. and grandkids, Jody Starbuck, Jaime Edmundson and Caleb Cargill. Faye was a beautiful person, loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Faye is also survived by her sister-in-law, Donna Evans, wife of her late brother, Don Evans.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, creativity, family devotion, and cherished memories. Faye was a beautiful person, who was deeply loved by her family and will greatly be missed by all who knew her.

Her life was a blessing to her family, and her memory will live on in the generations she helped nurture and the many lives she touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Nina Faye Travis Thursday, Nov. 12 at 12 p.m., at the Ivy Stone, 253 N. Broadway in Burns, with lunch to follow.
