Leonard Gayle Allington 1939-2016

OBIT Allington WEBLeonard Gayle Allington, 76, passed away Feb. 13 at his home in Burns after many months of failing health.

Leonard was born Oct. 3, 1939, in Fullerton, Neb., to Clyde and Alene Stott Allington. At the age of 3, his family moved to Nampa, Idaho, where Leonard graduated from high school in 1959. He worked for Meridian Millworks until 1965 when he made a life-changing move to Bend. It was in Bend that Leonard met his wife of 48 years, Floydette Eveland.  The two were married in Tygh Valley on Nov. 29, 1968. The couple had two sons, Howard in 1970, and Nathan in 1974.

Leonard worked for Bend Millworks almost 40 years when he retired in 2005. After retirement, the Allingtons moved to Burns to be close to their three granddaughters.

Family and friends remember Leonard as patient, a good listener who could keep a secret, and very giving of his time and resources. He had a tradition of singing “Happy Birthday” in a loud, everybody is going to know, voice to his friends.

Leonard loved to fish, trap, skin, and hunt. He was happiest fishing for steelhead on the lower Deschutes River. In his retirement years, he introduced his granddaughters to fishing as they took summer camping trips.

Leonard is survived by his wife Floydette; son, Howard and wife, Stacey, and two grandsons, Kaden and Karsen of Kalama, Wash.; son, Nathan and wife, Lease, and three granddaughters, Abby, Elsa and Cassie of Burns;  sister, Clydette Newbold of Meridian, Idaho; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family service will be held in the spring.  Contributions in Leonard Allington’s memory may be made to the National Rifle Association. LaFollette’s Chapel is in charge of arrangements. You can sign the on-line condolence book at www.lafolletteschapel.com
