Strong wind takes Harney County by storm

Strong wind, rain, and hail hit Harney County Friday, May 25, uprooting trees and damaging homes, barns,vehicles, and power lines. Prior to losing power, the National Weather Service reporting station at Burns Municipal Airport recorded wind speeds up to 57 miles per hour, and the remote reporting station at Sage Hen reported gusts up to 48 miles per hour. No direct injuries resulted from the storm.

Samantha White was born and raised in Harney County, and she graduated from Burns High School in 2005. After high school, she attended the University of Oregon where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in magazine journalism. White was hired as a reporter for the Burns Times-Herald in September 2012.
