Cutting horse clinic planned for March 30

Hey riders! Looking for a fun new game for you and your horse? On Saturday, March 30, the High Desert Cutters Club (HDC) is hosting a clinic/workshop for all levels of riders to introduce the basics of cow cutting. The clinic will be held at a covered arena on Highway 78, a few miles east of Burns. Neither you nor your horse need to know anything about the sport, but it is helpful if your horse has learned to stop. Bob Kerby, regionally known cutting horse trainer, will provide expert coaching during the event and work with each rider and horse.

Please bring a potluck dish to share during the lunch break!

The HDC is a local club committed to improving horsemanship and horses’ skills through training, practice, and a series of low-key competitive events over spring and summer. We conclude the season with a year-end potluck and awards ceremony in the fall.

The High Desert Cutters is a club dedicated to promoting cutting horse events, and endeavors to develop good fellowship among participants. HDC especially recognizes the importance of enhancing opportunities for youth and modeling concepts of fairness, good horsemanship, and community participation. Horses and riders of all levels are invited to join the fun. For more information about the pursuit, visit the National Cutting Horse Association website: https://ncha.com.au/publications/ncha-rules-policies/

The High Desert Cutters schedule one cutting each year with increased fees for the purpose of raising funds to provide scholarships to deserving applicants. The High Desert Cutters provide as many scholarships of $500 to $1,000 as funds allow, to at least one Harney County youth annually. Youth may be living outside of Harney County for education purposes, but the youth’s dependent family must be residents of Harney County.

Please RSVP to Sallianne Kelly at 541-413-0788, or Corinne Elser at 541-589-1577 to register for the clinic.
