Hilanders place first, second at Vale Dash ’n Splash

The Hilanders’ Riley Morris placed second overall to lead the Burns girls to a first-place finish in the two-mile race.

Following a stellar season last year, the Burns cross country teams got the 2019 season off to a good start at the Dash ’n Splash in Vale on Aug. 29.

The Hilanders’ Riley Morris placed second overall to lead the Burns girls to a first-place finish in the two-mile race. Morris finished in a time of 12:47.2, behind Lily Neff of Nampa Christian with a time of 12:32.7.

The Hilanders placed first with a score of 37, followed by Nampa Christian with 43, Baker 51, Vale 103, and Ontario 140.

Olivia Winn of Burns raced to a fifth-place finish with a time of 13.19.9. Sayge Root came in eighth for Burns (13:51.8), Sarah Letham ninth (13:53.7), Mattie Woodbury 17th (15:13.6), Avery Gunderson 21st (15:31.4), and Annabelle Johnson 24th (15:38.8).

The Burns boys team came in second in the team standings with 46 points, with Baker finishing first with a score of 39. Nampa Christian placed third with 76 points, followed by Ontario 90, Nyssa 132, Vale 166, Adrian 175, and Four Rivers 212.

Calvin Bates led the Burns contingent, finishing fourth in the two-mile race with a time of 10:55.7. Masson Shaw placed fifth (11:00.8), Ryan Robles sixth (11:03.8), Carter Lardy seventh (11:05.8), Spencer Johnson 24th (12:03.6), Morgan Jenkins 26th (12:14.0), Tom Boyd (12:49.0), Logan Radinovich 44th (13:37.0), Samual Grigg 45th (13:37.3), Mason Wulff 46th (13:39.2), JD Medley 55th (14:28.1), and Ben Johnson 72nd (17:13.6).

The Hilander teams will compete in the Caldwell (Idaho) Twilight Invitational on Sept. 6 at 4:30 p.m. MT.
