Burns splits league matches with Nyssa, Vale

After an Eastern Oregon League (EOL) loss to Vale on Tuesday, Sept. 24, the Burns volleyball team got back on the winning track by downing Nyssa in straight sets on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Burns defeated the Bulldogs 25-15, 25-16, 25-19 to improve to 2-1 in the EOL, while Nyssa dropped to 0-3.

The Hilanders’ Allie Hueckman had a good night, racking up 20 kills, 17 digs, and two blocks.

Kaiden raif finished with 30 assists and eight blocks, and Kaitlyn Wright added three kills and seven blocks.

The Burns volleyball team hosted Vale in EOL action on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and it was the Vikings coming up with the victory.

The Hilanders won the first set 25-10, then lost the next three, 23-25, 12-25, 21-25.

With the win, Vale improved to 2-0 in league, and 5-10 overall. Burns dropped to 1-1, 12-5.

Burns recorded 29 kills in the match, led by Allie Hueckman with 11 and Mariah Atencio with eight. Atencio also had seven blocks, and Kaitlyn Wright added another six.

Hueckman accounted for 12 of the team’s 49 digs, Fawntana Britt had 11, and Kaiden Raif nine.

Raif led the team in assists with 27.
