Doris “Jean” Brown 1946-2019

Doris “Jean” Brown, 72, a resident of Burns, passed away Oct. 9 in Boise, Idaho.

Jean was born Oct. 12, 1946, in Little Rock, Ark., to Doris Jean Woods (later Hogan), and Johnny Gilchriest.

In addition to being a wife, mother, and friend, Jean was known to many in Harney County as Oard’s Gallery and Museum attendant from July 2013 through December 2018. Jean was skilled at never meeting a stranger whom she did not respect and love. She was quick to share her warm smile and affectionate hugs with all comers.

Jean is survived by her husband, Bill Brown of Burns (His Cuts Barber Shop on Broadway); sister, Sharon Ray, and brother-in-law, Oscar Ray, of Muskogee, Okla.; son, Robert J. Smith of Beaumont, Texas; step-son, Don, and wife, Brenda Brown of Idaho; step-son, Gene Brown, and wife, Teresa of Nampa, Idaho; step-daughter, Debbie Brown Henson, and husband, Curt of Nampa, Idaho; step-daughter, Theresa Brown Robertson, and husband, Jeff of Bend; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Burns Seventh Day Adventist Church, 306 N. Buena Vista Ave. in Burns. There will be a light meal served afterward. Family and friends are welcome to bring salads or desserts.
