The Burns girls basketball team traveled to Bend for a match-up against the Bend High Lava Bears on Wednesday, June 2.

The 6A Lava Bears from the Mountain Valley Conference were defeated by the Hilanders, 37-33.

The Hilanders maintained a lead heading into the fourth quarter until a late surge by Bend gave them a one-point advantage with just over two minutes remaining.

Timely scoring and defensive stops by the Hilanders down the stretch proved to be enough to hold off the home team and earn the win on the road.

Allie Hueckman led the Hilanders in scoring with 16 points, followed by Kaya Dobson with 5. Ashley Wright and Aundreya Ceja each added 4, Kaitlyn Wright and Kaiden Raif had 3, and Gracie McMullen and Amanda Sanders each added 1 point.

The Hilanders hosted the Nyssa Bulldogs on Friday, June 4.

The teams played in a tight ball game, but the Hilanders outlasted the Bulldogs with a final score of 44-42.

Down 16-4 to start the second quarter, the Hilanders hit four 3-pointers to close the gap at the half.

A balanced offense, along with a defensive effort, helped stop the Bulldogs and get the Hilanders a win on a special Senior Night at home.

Kaiden Raif led the Hilanders in scoring with 14 points, followed by Kaitlyn Wright with 10. Aundreya Ceja added 8 points, Kaya Dobson had 6, Ashley Wright scored 4 points, and Gracie McMullen had 1 point.

The Burns girls are 1-1 in Eastern Oregon League play and 3-1 on the season.
