VETERAN Charles ‘Chuck’ L. Vermillion Nov. 1, 1937 – Nov. 22, 2021

Charles Leonard Vermillion, commonly referred to as ‘Chuck’ by his friends and loved ones, was born in Canyon City, Ore. on Nov. 1, 1937.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Emma Cone; and father, Roy Vernon Vermillion. Chuck’s siblings included three brothers, Jerry, Ted, and Robert; two sisters, Marietta and Tara Lynne; and two stepsisters, Sharon and Susan.

Chuck is survived by the love of his life, Jane Vermillion; their three children, Tawnya, Tina, and Charles II; two stepchildren, Mona, and Jack; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Chuck graduated from Riddle High School where he was a standout running back for the football team. Shortly after graduation, Chuck enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served until 1959. In 1960, Chuck married his beautiful Jane.

During his professional life, Chuck served as an expert among the lumber industry. From 1974-1988, he owned and operated Vermillion Wood Products, a secondary wood products business in Burns, where he employed, educated, and trained employees to operate machinery, grade lumber, and cut stock. In 1988, Chuck joined the World Trade Corporation in Portland, to oversee the training of a large crew on the cutting and grading of timber. In 1991 until it’s closing, Chuck served an integral role for Tecton Laminates Inc., in Hines.

Chuck experienced a well-rounded life. He was a loving father and husband who enjoyed family get-togethers, fishing, camping, and working with lumber products. He possessed an endearing sense of humor and a creative way of looking at a situation.

He was an extremely hard-working man, a patient listener, a storyteller, and a source of wisdom for many. Chuck, or ‘Papa’ as understood by his grandchildren, leaves behind an important legacy filled with love, knowledge, experience, and teaching. Chuck’s memory will forever go on, but he will be greatly missed. We love you, Papa! Rest in peace.

The family will be honoring Chuck with a celebration of life in the late spring.
